Target Software was founded in 1991 by two software technology pioneers, Ted Rosenberger and Jim Gardner. The company originally specialized in developing innovative sales order management software for corporate clients. However, in 1993 Target Software landed its first pharmaceutical client and its focus shifted toward building specialized sales and marketing support software for pharmaceutical and healthcare organizations.

In 1998, Target Software rolled out the first version of Target BackOffice, the company's innovative pharmaceutical CRM, call reporting, and sample management system and Ventiv Health standardized on the technology for managing all of the company's contract pharmaceutical sales forces. In 2000, Target Software decided to enter the pharmaceutical sales force automation business and began R&D efforts on "Target Mobile". Development efforts were initially focused on the Pocket PC platform, but laptop, tablet and notebook versions of Target Mobile were soon to follow.

The first Target Mobile deployments took place in late 2002 and the Target Software has been enjoying a rapid adoption period ever since. Now thousands of pharmaceutical reps use Target Mobile. The entire Target SFA suite is evolving rapidly and now includes top notch management reporting, sample accountability, call center and sales order management functions.
